Kona Brewing was founded in 1994 by father and son Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa.
The pair had a vision to reflect the spirit, culture, and beauty of Hawaiʻi in a collection of local island craft beers. This dream became reality on Valentine's Day '95 when we raised a glass together with our very first batch of liquid aloha. Cheers!
The original brewery was in a converted warehouse in Kailua-Kona, producing a few draft beers for the Hawai‘i market. In 1998, the brewpub, built from reclaimed materials, was added, and handmade pizzas were served with pints of fresh beer.
Over the next 20 years, with the help of our amazing ʻohana (family) of staff and countless local businesses and leaders, Kona Brewing Hawaiʻi underwent significant growth and expansion.
This allowed us to open a second pub in Hawaiʻi Kai while creating stable (and fun!) job opportunities for our remote island economy.
From our humble beginning, we quickly expanded in scale as word got out about our unique and refreshing Hawaiian-inspired craft beers.
In 2020, Kona Brewing Hawaiʻi opened a newly built, state-of-the-art, sustainable brewery where we brew beers exclusively for Hawaiʻi and employ over 200 residents across our state.
Over the years, with the unwavering support of our community and the relentless passion and dedication of the Kona team, we have crafted more than 50 unique beers, organized hundreds of concerts and events at our pubs, and supported over 100 local community events and non-profit organizations.
