As part of our MAKANA Local Giving Program, we are proud to partner with artist @thelocalbrandco_la who designed a fresh take at our Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale labels. As a Kailua boy and surfer himself, he was inspired to showcase two of our most iconic brands, while paying homage to Hawaii’s classic and timeless surf culture.

Only available for sale at our pubs for a limited time and while supplies last, Kona Brewing Hawaii will donate $1.00 for every sticker sold to two local non-profits. @DukeFoundation and @hoomaa_foundation.

Greg details his inspiration for each design below:

Walking in the footsteps of the great Duke Kahanamoku and all the Original Waikiki Beach Boys Crew. Looking out at the Diamond Head sunset view that DK and The Boys enjoyed over the course of their lifetimes. This sticker is a tribute to all those who have felt the same way as Duke & Co. after having had great surf sessions or gazing at the vast Pacific Ocean. Aloha Kakou to the past, present and future Surf Legends.

BIG WAVE GOLDEN ALE: Dawn Patrol at Makaha Beach in your 1971 VW Bus with that favorite stick strapped up top, watching the steady diet of chunky rights roll in. This sticker is a homage to the daily mantra of Surf is Life and those chosen few who get barreled before hitting that 9-5.

Whether maxed out or a bomb, Waimea Bay is the hallowed ground of big wave surf spots. Few have surfed it better than Eddie Aikau. This sticker is an ode to Waimea Bay, those who love big wave surfing and the lifeguards who protect them. Lastly, to The Eddie that continues to be the premiere event in surfing.

With Diamond Head and an iconic Hawaiian rainbow that symbolizes the islands in the background, what view could be better than that as you wait for that perfect wave to roll in at Bowls, Kaisers, or Canoes. This sticker is a nod to those “In-Between Sets” moments before you get that ride you’ll be stoked about for the rest of the day.
